Guide To Effective Podcasting

If you own an iPod, to get the most out of your device, you should definitely learn the tricks of podcasting. Podcasting is a term popularized by former MTV VJ and media entrepreneur Adam Curry which means the process of downloading or listening audio files and uploading you own audio files from your iPod.

One of the most popular mediums used in Podcasting is the iTunes program. Through the internet, you can easily download the latest in music and information by connecting to RSS feeds from the web directly to your iPod. RSS feeds consist of files that are automatically updated whenever a new item or content is added on that particular website. By subscribing to your favorite RSS feeds, also known as podcasting, you’ll never miss anything from the world of musical entertainment. You can also broadcast your personal thoughts and feelings and share the world a part of yourself through podcasting.

Podcasting and listening to podcasts is convenient especially for people who are always on the go. You don’t have to wait until you get home to listen to your favorite program or music. You can conveniently do so through your iPod even while you’re jogging or on the road. You can also use your iPod to record a particular music or moment that you would like to share with your friends and other people.

If you’re into podcasting here are some of the tricks that can make your experience convenient and worthwhile:

  1. If you’re going to use podcast to share something, like your opinions and feelings, then try to say something that you would be worth the time of your listeners. You can’t just rant about something without making much point or you’ll only bore people and they will never again bother to listen to you.
  2. It would help if you already have an outline prepared before you start off with your blurb. List the subjects that you’ll be discussing about and make notes about certain key points that you’ll want to stand out. If it’s going to be an interview with another person, it’s best to have a set questions already listed that you can refer to. However, it’s not advisable to list every sentence you have to say or your voice might sound scripted, monotonous or boring to your listeners.
  3. Don’t talk for an hour if you don’t really have much to say. If you only have a few words to broadcast, that’s fine as long as you make sense. Podcasting doesn’t necessarily need to be a long speech. You can make your point in half an hour or even less. If you can say something really valuable and worth thinking about in ten or fifteen minutes, your listeners will appreciate you more because didn’t take too much of their time.
  4. Use quality audio equipment. Even if you have really something important to say, if you’re recorded audio sounds poor and defective your listeners might not have the patience to stay and listen.
  5. Think of broadcasting as something that has a unique concept. If you’re just doing what everyone else does, you wouldn’t be inviting more audience. But if you have something interesting and original to say, everybody would love to listen to you.
  6. Don’t use music just to fill more idle minutes in your broadcast. If you must, you need to choose music with good taste. If you’re going to use commercial music, don’t forget that these are copyrighted materials so make sure that the music provider allows its personal use for podcasting and that it’s for free.

Don’t do everything at once! Just 3 of the tips above will turn you into an excellent podcaster with very little effort and time.
